1/2 cup grated Coconut (fresh or frozen)
1/2 tsp Sugar/jaggery
Salt to taste
For lining up vessel
5 to 6 Turmeric leaves
For seasoning (optional)
½ tsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard seeds
2 to 3 Red chilies
Directions
- Soak rice in water for around 2hrs. Drain the water and spread it on a dry cloth or paper.
- When it becomes dry, grind it into coarse rava (alternatively, use the idli rava directly).
- Mix rice rava with all other ingredients.
- Heat oil and add mustard. When they start popping, add red chilies cut into small pieces. Add this to the above mixture and mix well (this seasoning is optional).
- Arrange two turmeric leaves in cross-shape manner; keep a handful of mixture in the centre. Fold the leaves very tightly.
- Alternatively, spread the mixture over turmeric leaves placed at the bottom of the flat round vessel. Cover the top of mixture with turmeric leaves.
- Line the turmeric folds or vessel in a cooker vessel.
- Steam for around 10mins. Let cocker cool by itself. Remove the leaves from the tausalli folds or cut the tausalli in the vessel to the sizes required.
- While serving, discard the turmeric leaves. Serve with asafoetida chutney.
